Synopsis by Enrique Conty & Keith Rhee

The story takes place in the final stages of the One Year War. To provide their newtype pilot Amuro Rey with a machine worthy of his piloting skill, the Federation builds a fourth Gundam prototype with improved reaction speed.

After learning of the new Gundam prototype, the Zeon forces dispatch the Cyclops team to Antarctica, which assaults the Federation base in an attempt to destroy the EFM's new Gundam prototype. Although the team of marine MS thoroughly trash the base defense, the personnel manage to load the components of the Gundam onto a shuttle and launch it into space. The Cyclops team suffers one casualty.

The rest of the story takes place at the Revo colony in Side 6. It differs from the typical Gundam series in that it is told from the viewpoint of a small boy, named Alfred Izuhura...

Revo, Side 6

Determined to settle an argument with a classmate over whether the Federation has mobile suits, Alfred Izuhara sneaks into a restricted area of the spaceport with his camera and unknowingly captures the location of the Gundam prototype on tape. On the way home, Al is reunited with Christina Mackenzie, a young lady who used to babysit him when he was smaller. What Alfred doesn't know is that Chris is actually a Federation soldier... A battle breaks out the next day as Zeon MS enter the colony and engage in combat with Federation MS. Chasing a downed Zaku, Alfred reaches the crash site and meets Bernard Wiseman, a rookie pilot on his first sortie. After some squabbling, Alfred exchanges his camera disk for Bernie's rank insignia, after which Bernard is rescued by a Zeon MS.

Revo

After learning of the Gundam's location from the video disk, the Zeons launch a diversionary attack as Bernard pilots a shuttle with mobile suit components into the Revo colony. Al spots Bernie with the containers and promptly latches himself onto the hapless Zeon pilot. To keep Alfred from talking, the Cyclops captain makes Alfred an "honorary" member of the team, giving him a Cyclops insignia patch to wear. The captain doesn't want to be bothered by a rookie and an inquisitive kid - the patch is actually a bug, and Bernard is assigned to guard him to make sure he doesn't give anything away.

After going into the lawn of Chris' house to find Alfred, Bernard is mistaken for an intruder and clubbed by Chris. Again, Al claims Bernie is his long-lost brother, after which Chris apologizes, and the two are invited in for tea. Chris flashes him a beaming smile as Bernard leaves the house with Bernard...

To keep them occupied, the Cyclops captain gives Bernard and Alfred the "task" of finding the secret Federation outpost. By sheer luck, Bernie and Al actually manage to discover the outpost by chance, however, and the two sneak into the base and confirm the existance of the Gundam within the base. Bernard is berated by his superior Garcia for taking such a risk, but is let off the hook when it appears no harm has been done.

When asked by Alfred if he can kill the Gundam, Bernie makes up a story about him being an ace pilot. Bernard slowly develops an attachment to the kid Alfred.

In the meantime, the captain meets up with the Zeon contact and muses about how they were sent on a suicide mission; his request for reinforcements was met with a rookie (Bernard). The captain talks about how Zeon is losing the war, but nonetheless decides to press on with Operation Rubicon.

Assault

The Cyclops Commando finish assembling the Kaempfer. As Misha uses the mobile suit to stir up a commotion downtown as a diversion, the rest infiltrate the base under the guise of Federation soldiers. Misha makes short work of the Federation MS and the colony's own defense force sent after him, but due to a blunder on Bernard's part the team members are discovered as fakes. Most members except Bernard are mortally wounded in the ensuing gunfight.

Misha switches to Plan B: he attacks the base and attempts to destroy the Gundam himself. Chris climbs into the Gundam and engages the Kaempfer, and after surviving a chain-mine attack proceeds to turn both Misha and the Kaempfer into swiss cheese with the Gundam's hidden gatling guns.

The Nuclear Threat

After the failed mission, Commander Killing decides to nuke the Revo colony if the Gundam isn't destroyed by Christmas. Tired of Alfred's constant talking about how Bernard will destroy the Gundam, Bernie breaks down and tells Alfred about the bugged insignia, the Zeon plans, that he's not an ace at all, and that he's escaping the colony. Al throws the Zeon insignia back at Bernie and storms off.

Later, Al asks Chris her what would she do in such a situation. "I'd probably fight," Chris answers, "I'd fight because I'd be afraid of being alone."

As Bernard prepares to escape the colony, he remembers his fallen comrades, and thinks about the colony. Something inside him snaps, and Bernard decides to stay and fight the Gundam, not to win a victory for Zeon - but to save the colony. Bernie and Al start fixing the Zaku; to make up for the disadvantage in fire power, Bernie decides to use his surroundings and rigs grenades and inflatable balloons in the park. At the end of the day, Bernie gives Al a video disk...

Finale

Next morning. Bernard powers up the Zaku and heads towards the Federation outpost, which dispatches the Gundam. Though Bernie successfully lures the Gundam into the park and disables the gatling gun, he is severely wounded in the process.

Learning from his Dad that the Zeon cruiser carrying the nuke has been destroyed, Al runs towards the park to tell Bernie he no longer has to fight. As the two machines square it off, Al runs towards them and yells at Bernie to stop, to no avail. Bernie manages to deal out a disabling blow to the Gundam, but the Gundam's beam saber pierces the Zaku's cockpit. Shaken by Bernard's death, Al is shocked further as a wounded Christina is carried out of the Gundam...

Conclusion

Jan 1, UC 0080. The Zeon Republic signs a peace treaty with the Federation. The video disk given to Alfred contains a tearful message from Bernard telling Al that he won't make it back alive. When Christina asks about his "brother," Alfred hides the truth about Bernard and replies that he had to leave. Christina gives Alfred a farewell kiss and departs for Earth.

Back at school, as the principal talks about the war, Alfred slowly begins to cry.
